Amanda Smith- Artist

About:

  • Born Dec 1993

  • Philadelphia based artist

  • Graduated with a BFA from Tyler School of Art in 2017

Amanda Smith is an artist whose art tends to focus on an uncluttered  approach in her representations. Whether it be a portrait, a still life, or a drawing, her art focuses on the details within the images to subtly envelop the viewer in the moment as they engage with the piece.

Her figure paintings and tromp l'oeil paintings are the main focus of her work, though her interests expand to other mixed media as well.  The paintings are created with the objective of telling a story to the viewer or allowing them to create their own story about the people within.

By melding styles of the past with subtle hints of contemporary content she creates an experience, not just a painting.

Alongside her portraits, Smith also creates landscapes and drawings, focusing on a more impressionistic style throughought the works.

The landscapes place you in the image as a viewer, gazing out through the foliage towards the expanse beyond.  The audience is as much a part of the image as the paint, interacting with the painting similarly as with the figure paintings.

Her digital art tends to ere on the side of dry humor and whimsy, a welcome break from the intensity and seriousness of the other works within this collection.
